GESS aims to enhance the geomatics student experience and expose more people to the magic of geomatics!
The Geomatics Engineering Students’ Society is a student council of the Schulich School of Engineering, University of Calgary. Each council member is a geomatics student who gives back to our community by creating opportunities for the geomatics student body to make the best of their university experience.
Meet the 2025-2026 GESS Council!
KUSH RISHI
President
Hi, I’m Kush Rishi, a 4th-year Geomatics Engineering student and the President of the Geomatics Engineering Students’ Society (GESS). I’m interested in photogrammetry and data analysis, and in how these tools can be applied at the intersection of engineering and healthcare. I also enjoy helping connect students with industry through events like the Geomatics Engineering Expo. Outside of school, I’m involved in a family business and enjoy playing basketball, keeping up with new tech, and travelling.

Hello! My name is Becca, and I am Geomatics Engineering student with a concentration in Cadastral Surveying. My role on GESS is VP Externals, where I help connect geomatics students with different career pathways! In my free time, I enjoy outdoor activities like biking, hiking, and skiing. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at our events this year!

Hey! I’m Danika, and when I’m not hiking, skiing, or kayaking, I’m probably helping plan something fun with GESS. I love how it brings students together and creates a supportive, engaging community within engineering.

Hi! I’m Isabel and I’m currently in my internship year of Geomatics and my third year on GESS. My role this year is VP Communications. When I’m not doing school work, I enjoy reading and going to the gym!

Hi! My name is Andrea and I am in my final year in the Geomatics program. This is my third year as GESS’ VP Finance and it has been a rewarding experience so far! When I’m not doing school work, I enjoy reading and watching rom-com series (that’s romance-comedy for y’all).

I am one of the expo commissioner this year and has happily been part of GESS for 3 years. Geo throws the best career fairs in the entirety of the Engineering department and I made sure that it happened this year too 😌.

Hey! I’m Hady Ibrahim, one of the Expo Commissioners! I’m currently studying Geomatics Engineering with a Software Engineering minor. Outside of school, you’ll probably find me on the ice 🏒, chilling with friends, or shooting hoops and calling it cardio.

My name is Mátyás, I’m a 4th-year geo, interning as a survey tech on Vancouver Island. As one of the Arts Commissioners on the GESS council, I want to contribute to the student body and stay connected, especially while I am away from campus. I enjoy the outdoors, mostly the mountains: hiking, skiing, biking. I like all sorts of weird music and movies, and I have recently gotten into reading.

Hi I’m John, the GESS Operations Coordinator (formerly known as Homeroom Boss). I’m in my final year of Geomatics, and I love the surveying aspect of the degree. I love playing music, watching movies, and powerlifting.

I’m Andrew the internship rep for 2025/2026 , currently on internship based out of Fort St. John, BC working as a surveyor. I enjoy listening to music, hiking, playing video games, riding quads, and going to the gym.
